Community Partnerships and Mobilization

What makes TYJI different is our role as a connector. Our strength lies in bridging the gap between research, policy, and community. By aligning data with lived experience and legislative insight, we do not just inform—we move it forward, ensuring that solutions are research, driven and deeply rooted in the communities they serve. We believe in the power of collaboration and invite you to join us in creating a more just and equitable future for Connecticut’s youth.

Data-Driven Community Violence Prevention Initiative (DCVPI)

This initiative is a cornerstone of TYJI’s Community Partnerships and Mobilization efforts. It is designed to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit organizations through training, technical assistance, and a structured framework for data reporting. Our goal is to support collective impact and demonstrate the outcomes and impact of grant funded programs and/or services.

DCVPI Initiative Objective

To establish a robust Performance-Based Accountability Framework for organizations receiving Youth Service Prevention and Youth Prevention Grant funding. This framework will enhance partnered organizations’ ability to demonstrate the outcomes and impact of their services.

Our Approach

We make an impact by focusing our work on three overarching goals:

We Drive Policy and Systems Reform

We collaborate with lawmakers, state agencies, and community partners to develop and implement research-based policies that foster long-term change in the juvenile justice, behavioral health, and other child-serving systems.

We Educate, Train, and Empower

We equip professionals, families, and young people with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to lead transformative change.

We Build Power Through Community Engagement

By centering the voices and lived experiences of those most impacted by our systems, we foster honest dialogue, collective learning, and powerful action that assist community guided solutions that strengthen families and build a more just future for everyone.

DCVPI Goals

Strengthen Organizational Capacity

Strengthen Organizational Capacity: Equip your organization with tools, training, and knowledge to effectively demonstrate the positive outcomes of your youth prevention services, providing a lasting impact that extends beyond reporting.

Transparent Reporting

Transparent Reporting: Support the development of a public-facing reporting tool (dashboard) to communicate the benefits of community prevention programming to children, families, and community.

Your data is aggregated with the full cohorts to create an annual report. This report shows the collective impact of your work and helps inform future funding and policy decisions by stakeholders like the Judicial Branch and the legislature.

All new CBOs and any continuing CBOs who did not participate in the training last year are required to attend.

A “Yellow Grade” is a diagnostic tool, not a punishment. It means we will automatically enroll you in targeted, one-on-one technical assistance sessions to strengthen the specific areas where your report needs improvement.

All training sessions are recorded and made available on our Online Resource Hub. You can also book dedicated, one-on-one time with a team member through the portal for technical assistance.

We actively recruit for the work group from CBOs. Please contact us if you are interested in serving as a leader.

This program goes beyond reporting. The training focuses on data utilization, meaning the PBA process helps your organization create evidence of your impact, which is essential for securing future grants and funding from private foundations and public sources.
